In the wake of the rising number of Coronavirus cases, the National Testing Agency has postponed the JEE (Main) exam for the April session. The NTA while announcing the decision said that new dates for the JEE (Main) exam will be notified soon and students will be given at least 15 days advance notice before the dates of the exam. The April session of JEE (Mains) exam was scheduled to be conducted on 27th, 28th and 30th April.
The NTA has already conducted the first two sessions of the JEE Main exam this year in the months of February and March. The April session JEE (Main) exam has for now been postponed and the NTA will be re-notifying the exam dates for the exam after the number of curve of Coronavirus cases flattens out in the coming weeks.
JEE (Main) exam is the preliminary stage exam to get admissions into the top engineering colleges across the country including the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institute of Technology (NIT) and other reputed engineering colleges. Students after clearing the JEE Main exam have to appear in the second stage of exam called JEE (Advanced) to finally secure their admission in top colleges of the country. In addition to the government colleges, a large number of private colleges also consider JEE (Main) scores to offer admissions to students into their engineering courses.
In a related development, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and most state education boards of the country have postponed the class 12th exams for the current academic year due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The CBSE was scheduled to conduct the class 12th exams in the month of May this year however due to sudden rise in the number of cases, the CBSE has now decided to postpone the exam for now.
