5G will be as transformational as the Internet: VMware India MD .

V/D/C NEWS :-

Fifth generation (5G) telecom technologies will be as transformational as the internet for the economy, a top executive of VMware said. This is because of the opportunity it will provide for a number of applications and the uses it will generate once 5G is deployed fully.

“5G is going to be the big driver of innovation and transformation in the industry, also in terms of use cases and how it impacts the larger economy,” Pradeep Nair, managing director of VMware India told ET. “5G will be able to provide the kind of customer experience that you need at high bandwidth and the capability at the edge will be much higher. It will be an absolute gamechanger.”
VMware, a US-based cloud and virtualisation software company, had committed over $2 billion to India in 2019, as it looked to expand in the country, both by building new businesses as well as hiring people for its development centres.

Earlier this month, VMware named India-born company veteran Rangarajan Raghuram as its next chief executive officer from June, replacing Pat Gelsinger, who joined chip maker Intel Inc. as CEO in January. Gelsinger had made the $2 billion commitment to India.
“We are probably a little ahead of plan in terms of that investment. VMware is extremely happy with what we have been able to do in India, I think we have expanded our presence in this country. The talent that we have available enables us to build products faster, take advantage of innovation much better,” Nair said.

India is a highly competitive market in terms of pricing, according to Nair. Customers here look at value in their technology investments as they grow their business, he added. “India is a very value conscious market. So, you cannot just come and say, ‘Hey, I’m VMware, I need a premium’ and that never works. But if you say, here is what I do, here is what I deliver, and here is how I am helping you save money, or make money or mitigate risk there, then customers are happy to pay for,” Nair said.
