The principal of Vishwa Bharti Higher Secondary School in Srinagar, Meem Rose Shafi, has denied any ban on wearing Abaya in the school. In a statement, she said that the allegations of ban on Abaya were false and that the school management always respects the sentiments of all the sections of the society visa vis the dress code. She also apologized for any hurt caused by the incident. The controversy started on Thursday when a group of students protested against the school authorities for allegedly not being allowed to enter the premises wearing Abaya. The students claimed that they were stopped by the school guard and asked to remove their Abayas before entering the school. The school principal has denied these allegations and said that the students were asked to wear their school uniforms underneath their Abayas. She said that this was done to ensure that the students were wearing the correct dress code. The controversy has sparked a debate on social media, with some people supporting the school's decision and others criticizing it. Some people have argued that the school should not interfere with the students' religious freedom, while others have said that the school has a right to enforce a dress code.
The school principal has said that the school is open to dialogue with the students and their parents. She has also said that the school will review its dress code policy in light of the controversy.
