A 32-year-old man was arrested in Surat, Gujarat on Tuesday for allegedly posing as a top scientist at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and giving interviews to the media claiming that he had designed the lander module for the Chandrayaan-3 moon mission.
The man, identified as Mitul Trivedi, allegedly posed as the "assistant chairman" of ISRO's "Ancient Science Application department" and even produced fake appointment letters and certificates to support his claims. He also gave interviews to local media outlets after the successful soft-landing of the Vikram lander on the moon on August 24.
A complaint was lodged against Trivedi after his claims were found to be false. He was arrested by the Surat Police on Tuesday and charged with cheating, forgery, and impersonation.
Trivedi is not the first person to be arrested for posing as an ISRO scientist. In 2019, a man was arrested in Kerala for allegedly posing as a senior scientist at ISRO and claiming that he had invented a new technology to prevent space debris.
These cases highlight the need for people to be careful about who they believe when it comes to information about ISRO and its missions. ISRO is a highly respected organization and its scientists work hard to achieve great things. It is important to only get information about ISRO from official sources.
