V/D/C NEWS:
A restaurant in Abu Dhabi was shut down for selling non-halal food. The restaurant, Birat Manila Restaurant, was located in the Mussafah area. It was found to be selling non-halal food and preparing it with the same equipment and tools used to prepare halal food. This is a violation of the UAE's food safety laws, which require all food establishments to be licensed and to sell only halal food.
The restaurant was shut down by the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (Adafsa). Adafsa said that the restaurant's practices posed a significant risk to public health. The restaurant will be allowed to reopen after it gets the necessary permits to sell non-halal food and after it has changed its equipment and sterilized the entire premises thoroughly.
The UAE has a large Muslim population, and the vast majority of food sold in the country is halal. Halal food is prepared according to Islamic law, which prohibits the consumption of pork and other haram (forbidden) foods. The UAE government takes food safety very seriously, and businesses that violate the food safety laws can face significant penalties.
In addition to the Birat Manila Restaurant, there have been other restaurants in the UAE that have been shut down for selling non-halal food. In 2021, a restaurant in Dubai was shut down after it was found to be selling pork. In 2020, a restaurant in Sharjah was shut down after it was found to be using the same equipment to prepare both halal and non-halal food.
The UAE government is committed to ensuring that all food sold in the country is safe and halal. Businesses that violate the food safety laws will be held accountable.
