 V/D/C NEWS:

Red Alert for Cold Wave and Dense Fog in North India
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for a severe cold wave in six states:

Himachal Pradesh
Uttarakhand
Punjab
Haryana
Chandigarh
Uttar Pradesh
This alert is valid until January 28, 2024.

Additional details:

An orange alert for a cold wave remains in effect for these states from January 25 to 27.
Light rainfall or snowfall is expected over the Western Himalayan Region from January 25 to 28.
Dense to very dense fog is predicted in parts of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi until January 28. Isolated pockets of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, and Uttarakhand may also experience dense fog during this period.
Potential impacts:

The intense cold wave may lead to hypothermia and other health risks, especially for vulnerable populations.
Dense fog can cause disruptions to transportation, including airlines delays and cancellations as experienced on January 24 at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport.
IMD recommendations:
People in affected areas are advised to take precautions against the cold weather, such as wearing warm clothing and avoiding exposure to cold temperatures for extended periods.
Travelers should check weather updates and flight schedules before making travel plans.
Local authorities are taking steps to prepare for the cold wave and assist vulnerable populations.
