Red Alert for Cold Wave and Dense Fog in North India:
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for a severe cold wave in six states:
Himachal Pradesh
Uttarakhand
Punjab
Haryana
Chandigarh
Uttar Pradesh
This alert is valid until January 28, 2024.
Additional details:
An orange alert for a cold wave remains in effect for these states from January 25 to 27.
Light rainfall or snowfall is expected over the Western Himalayan Region from January 25 to 28.
Dense to very dense fog is predicted in parts of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi until January 28. Isolated pockets of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, and Uttarakhand may also experience dense fog during this period.
